Makeup is a manifestation of your self esteem. It’s a way to show how you feel about yourself, and for you to project the best image of yourself.

Makeup Color Theory

A lot of makeup involves blending colors in, matching them to skin tone and smoothing out skin irregularities.

The fun part, though, is when you choose colors to accent, highlight and make a statement. Color theory is invaluable when choosing makeup colors to stand out. The basic idea is that colors harmonize or react against or with each other.

So, if you have light brown eyes, a darker brown or black eyeliner around them will contrast and make them appear lighter. Colors opposite on the color wheel will contrast more. So if you have blue eyes, gold or bronze eyeshadow will make the blue color appear stronger.

And this works for all the other colors: choose a color opposite for maximum contrast. If you want complemantary colors, choose colors next to each other on the wheel

Sheer Makeup: How to Apply and When to Use

Sheer make up is makeup which has a bit of shimmer in it. This can really liven up the look of your face. It can add a bit of sparkle to your eyes, or a natural glow to your cheeks.

How to apply sheer makeup.

You can use less sheer makeup than the normal type and get a great effect. (The opposite of sheer makeup is matte makeup.) The important thing to remember is that sheer makeup is used as a highlight.

For example, you could put a bit on your cheekbones to highlight them. Many people use sheer makeup like ordinary makeup and just put it all over their face. Instead, use dabs as a accent and blend it in layer by layer.

The best way to apply it is by dabbing a little bit and blending it well before adding another layer. It is always easier to put more than remove some. The most common mistake is that people tend to put it all over their face when it is just suppose to serve as highlights on one’s face.

When to use sheer makeup

You can use sheer makeup as an extra sparkle when you’re going out. It can be in the form of foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, loose powder or even blush.

You can blend it into your skin for a natural glow or apply it as eyeshadow for a glamorous glitter. The best known type of sheer makeup is made with minerals.  Sheer mineral powder makes the glow more lightweight and transluscent.

Use small ammounts of powder when applying. Keep it simple and just use one color of sheer makeup at a time. The best way to apply it is with a brush. Add a little at a time (remember it’s easier to add more than to remove) and experiment!

Makeup Concealer Wheel

In fact, many women find that after putting on concealer properly, they’ve already evened out their skin tones. So they can do without foundation!

So here are some tips to help you use concealer to can maximize its effect in the best way.

For older women, put dots of concealer in the creases that run from nose to the corners of your mouth. Blend it in, and you’ll look years younger.

You can use concealer under your eye, but also above your eye. Dot it under your eyebrow and smooth over. This will immediately bring out your brow bone.

For oily skin, a dryer formula of concealer works best. Use a light layer to give a matte finish to your cheeks and forehead.

When you’re in a hurry, you can use concealer instead of makeup remover. Just use it over makeup smudges or runs. This way, you can just do running repairs during a long day, and keep looking fresh.

This is a great tip. Use concealer before you put on lipstick. Priming your lips in this way gives you a very even tone to put the lipstick over. But it also lends depth to your lipstick, and gives you a rich matte shine.

So, that’s best practise for concealers. Have fun, and make the most of this incredibly versatile makeup item!
